How do we care for the earth we inhabit?
Cartography teaches global stewardship. I learned a great-great aunt shared ownership of a creosoting company on Bainbridge Island. The land is now under remediation by the EPA as a toxic waste site. Commercial decisions in the past can bring eventual harm to our planet in the present day, and consequently, ourselves.
An undated map of Pacific Creosoting Company layered over an iPhone photo I took of driftwood near the company site helps me ask: prosperity at what price?
